German mobility startups: field of view

Life field has developed lidar sensors to build the compact and cost-effective ones than the previous products and thus suitable for the mass market. All the visions of the automated car and robotic taxi, which are currently drawn by manufacturers landing and landab in the most dazzling colors, failed so far that the cars are simply blind. You do not see well enough to get self-standing by traffic. And if, if the visual aids are chunky, expensive and suffering under high thriss.

Highly automated and cheaply produce

Laufbeld believes that to have solved the problem with his cube. This lidar sensor is equipped with simplified but powerful technology and can be highly automated and thus produce cheap in coarse number. The cube has a range of up to 250 meters and can – that’s why lidar sensors – capture moving object and overlay in a 3d point cloud for the system.

The software behind it, also from field of view, then supplies the corresponding information to the system of the end customer. A technology that can also be used in building control, topographic 3d mapping (for the strain construction) or the mixing of transport volumes (for logistics).

In the automotive industry, two factors play a particularly rough role. On the one hand, the laser monitoring and feed into the system in real time. On the other hand, the technology also works in perfect darkness or in bad weather. The construction of the mirrors inside the cube constructed by field of view also leads to a strong sunlight inhibiting. All things that you have cameras ahead. This makes lidar sensors interesting for automated driving.

Funf questions to dr. Florian petit, real estate

Can you let us know your business idea in three sats?

I can even do it in three words: mass market-compatible lidar sensors. Lidar (light detection and ranging) is not a new technology and there are some companies that can build lidar sensors. The actual problem of technology is your complexity. This has so far been that the sensors were too expensive and rough to install them in every vehicle with automated driving functions in the future. However, this will be necessary to ensure the safety of self-propelled vehicles. Therefore, at viewing field, we have developed a lidar sensor with a significantly simplified structure with high performance, which are produced highly automated and thus can operate the automotive mass market.

Who is your clientele?

Lidar sensors hold their environment in 3d using laser pulses and thus provide detailed information about abstonish, positions and volume of counter-objects in the environment of the sensor. The applications are therefore varied. The already mentioned autonomous driving functions are certainly the most famous scope for the laser-based sensors. In addition, we have customers in the areas of smart city (z.B. For the parking spot detection), security (z.B. In order to avoid people or objects in secured zones) and industry (z.B. For the freight volume).

Who are your competitors and what are you ahead?

There are not many lidar companies that can produce sensors for the mass market; there are might be a handful worldwide. We have ahead that we have already commissioned a highly automated production line and thus gone the important step in the highly volumed production of our sensors. However, we see many applications and a very coarse market for lidar sensors, which is why we ame that there will be several players in the industry in the future.

What concrete benefits do your customers have through their product?

The technology used by vision is a so-called solid-state technology that is called, no moving parts that can be weared and must be waited. In addition, the special structure of the field of view sensors causes a high performance in small space. And our sensor is comparatively cost-effective. All these points are particularly advantages for the automotive industry: the sensors can be easily integrated into headlamps or car roofs without affecting the vehicle design.

How far are you with the realization and where are you in five years?

We are already successfully putting projects with animal one suppliers from the automotive industry as well as other customers in the areas of smart city, security and industry. In addition, this year we put our production line commissioned, presented our long-range sensor and our team expanded over 80 employees. We continuously develop our lidar and always have a high performance and even smaller building in view.
